The 7-year-old alligator is known as "the Little Princess" and is believed to be a god representing Mother Earth; her marrying the local leader is a symbol of joining humans with the divine.
In the colorful ceremony, traditional music and revelers were captured dancing, while the indigenous leader was to kiss his new bride-to-be.
Trumpets and drums provided a festive mood as the groom carried the crocodile bride in his loving arms through the town square as men fanned it with their hats.
Elia Edith Aguilar, the godmother who was the organizing chairperson of the wedding, said: “It gives me so much happiness and makes me proud of my roots"
The alligator’s mouth was tied to avoid unwanted biting as the mayor kissed her several times throughout the whole ceremony.
