I came across a critic on social media calling Jesus "a liar" because He deceived His disciples saying, "I tell you the truth, some who are standing here will not taste death before they see the kingdom of God. We find the same statement in Matthew 16:28 and also in Mark 9:1.
What was Jesus' meaning that Some of His disciples will see His Kingdom before testing physical death? If We study the Gospels contextually, the next scene was the Transfiguration. In Greek, " Kingdom" also means royal glory or splendour". The three disciples who saw Jesus during the transfiguration saw Moses and Elijah changed or transfigured, this was a heavenly Kingdom preview of Jesus's earlier promise.
Remember when the same disciples asked Jesus to teach them how to pray, Jesus taught them the Lord's prayer and we also find the common phrase, ", your kingdom comes on earth as it is in heaven".
The "transfiguration" is when Jesus, Peter, James, and John went to the mountain top, where Jesus met the duo, Moses and Elijah in heavenly Kingdom glory—Moses representing the Law while Elijah representing the Prophets of the Old Testament. The disciples witnessed Jesus in His Kingdom glory talking with a glorified Moses and Elijah.
To interpret what Jesus said in Matthew 16:28, Mark 9:1, and Luke 9:27 in context as fulfilled in the transfiguration, which three of Jesus's disciples witnessed six days later, it should be noted how all the Gospels record it exactly as Jesus predicted. Let's also mark the supernatural nature of the scene where old testament patriots appeared shining. It was exactly a preview of the Kingdom.
