Even though the word "Smoking" is not found in the Bible, we can draw a conclusion by what it does to our bodies.
We all know God has designed our bodies to be healthy enough. Looking at the writing on most of the packets of cigarettes, "smoking can be harmful to your health" then the bible wouldn't commend it either. Let's first look at 1 Corinthians 6:12).majority of smokers get addicted and Later in life impose health risks "Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honour God with your body" (1 Corinthians 6:19-20). Most smokers eventually lose control and end up regretting and looking for ways to quit. Why would you want to quit smoking if it's a holy practice that's beneficial to your health?
Let's look at the following Bible verses -1 Corinthians 6:12)? Can it be said that smoking is truly honouring God with your body
-1 Corinthians 6:20)? Can a person honestly smoke "for the glory of God"
-1 Corinthians 10:31)? We believe that the answer to these three questions is a resounding "no." Therefore followers of Jesus Christ who smoke should try to quit. It's a sin!
What about those who are addicted to coffee which contains caffeine? If too much of everything is bad! Well, many people cover up one sin by pointing to another. It's obvious both coffee and cigarettes are addictive and both of them can be harmful depending on different health and body conditions. But look at this, two Pastors both standing at the pulpit in front of the congregation, one taking coffee and the other smoking, which of the two looks smarter? The one taking coffee.
Earlier I said smoking is a sin, Christians who smoke may be saved, they may as well not lose their salvation for smoking, yet it's a sinful habit they should fight against and confess it for misusing God's temple like confessing to other sins. 1 John 1:9
-1 Corinthians 6:20)? Can a person honestly smoke "for the glory of God"
-1 Corinthians 10:31)? We believe that the answer to these three questions is a resounding "no." Therefore followers of Jesus Christ who smoke should try to quit. It's a sin!
